NSW Resource Recovery Industries Survey
Recovering materials for reprocessing and/or reuse is a key action that contributes to sustainability. Levels of recovery also provide an indicator on progress towards the recycling targets set out in the NSW Waste Avoidance and Resource Recovery Strategy.
The Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water (DECCW) undertakes a state wide survey of recovery industries to obtain financial year data on the estimated quantities of specific materials being collected, reprocessed and reused across NSW. The following Fact Sheets provide information gathered through the DECCW survey.
DECCW also supports the collection of reprocessing and reuse data on additional materials by external organisations. Links to external reports are provided below. Reports containing data from DECCW surveys carried out in 2003/04 and 2005/06 are provided further down the page.

Building materials
The Department of Environment and Climate Change (NSW) engaged the Waste Management Association of Australia (WMAA) to undertake a survey for the 2006-07 financial year on recycling and recovery within the NSW Construction & Demolition industry. To access key NSW recycling and reprocessing building material data, view the WMAA Construction and Demolition Resource Recovery Industry Survey report for the financial year ending 30 June 2007 which is located on the WMAA website.
Plastics
The Plastics and Chemicals Industries Association (PACIA) carry out the National Plastics Recycling Survey to capture data related to the recycling and reprocessing of plastics in Australia. The Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water (DECCW) supports the collection of plastics data by PACIA on a yearly basis. PACIA provides DECCW with key data related to plastics reprocessing activity in NSW. The following links provide access to NSW recycling and reprocessing plastics data located on the PACIA website:
