Energy Use
Energy costs are a major expense for small and medium businesses. An energy management program can reduce the overall costs of energy and also reduce the long-term environmental impacts of excessive energy use.
You can get started on an energy efficiency program by:
- identifying all your energy costs (oil, gas, electricity)
- identifying the equipment that is using this energy and the hours of use
- identifying alternative energy sources, equipment or design to reduce usage.
Start by looking at:
Lighting
- Maximise the use of natural light
- Install high-efficiency lighting
- Turn off lights that are not needed
Heating and Cooling
- Install roof ventillators
- Check thermostats are at the lowest possible setting
- Insulate pipes and tanks
Equipment
- Clean and maintain all equipment regularly
- Check and replace inefficient machinery
- Where possible, turn off equipment when not in use
