Getting smart about waste

Landscaping construction sites and maintenance procedures tend to produce three basic types of waste: organic, solid and liquid.

Organic waste

  • vegetation clearance
  • tree trunks and large branches from land clearance
  • weeds
  • leaf litter, mulch

Solutions and suggested uses

Organic waste can be chipped, mulched, composted and reused on site or sent to an off-site compost facility.

Solid waste

  • packaging from site materials
  • excess materials, unused products
  • rock and soil from excavations
  • building materials from demolition
  • sediment retained in sediment traps

Solutions and suggested uses

  • Buy materials with minimum packaging
  • Don't over-order
  • Stockpile and reuse it on site
  • Recycle it off site or return to the supplier

Send it to an approved landfill site as last resort only.
