Sydney CBD Office Recycling Survey
This survey was undertaken to obtain information on the performance of different waste and recycling bin arrangements used in commercial offices in Sydney. There were two key components of this project:
(a) flow of waste and recycling from individual office workers, and
(b) the composition of waste and recycling streams, including contaminants.
The data gained from this study establishes industry benchmarks and identifies the characteristics of successful recovery systems. Comparison of the different methods may assist with future programs in resource recovery in office buildings.
The study was co-funded by the Department of Environment and Climate Change NSW and the National Packaging Covenant (NPC). The National Packaging Covenant is a unique Australian initiative between governments, industry and community groups to divert packaging waste from landfill. It is one of a number of projects which the Covenant funds across Australia to improve packaging sustainability. Visit the NPC website to view summaries and project reports of other NPC-funded projects.
