Statutory review of the Threatened Species Conservation Act

The Threatened Species Conservation Act 1995 establishes the legislative framework for the conservation of certain threatened species, populations and ecological communities of animals and plants in New South Wales.

In accordance with Section 157 of the Act, a review is being undertaken to determine whether the policy objectives of the Act remain valid and the terms of the legislation are still appropriate for securing those objectives.

The then Department of Environment, Climate Change and Water sought submissions from key stakeholders and interested parties as part of the review in late 2010. The period for making submissions is now closed. The submissions received are currently being considered by OEH as part of the review of the Act. A report on the review of the Act is expected to be tabled in Parliament in 2012.
