Threatened species

Priority actions by type of threatened species

The Department of Environment and Conservation has prepared a Priorities Action Statement (PAS) to promote the recovery of threatened species and the abatement of key threatening processes in New South Wales.

The Priorities Action Statement identifies a number of broad strategies to help threatened plants and animals recover in New South Wales. Each of these strategies have more specific priority actions within them.

Select an item from the list below to see priority actions for all species of that type.

Please note that priority actions have not yet been identified for some species and key threatening processes.

Type of species

What type of species or threatening process do the priority actions apply to?

Name of species

Name of species or threatening process that the priority actions apply to.

Only show results for Priority....
There are 1 threatened species in New South Wales matching the above criteria which have current Priority action plans. A total of 9 current Priority actions have been identified to help recover these species.

Conduct surveys on the Far South Coast, from Murramarong National Park south to Eden, to determine population size and extent and connectivity of populations (surveys should incorporate potential habitat on public as well as private land). Petaurus norfolcensis Squirrel Glider Animal > Marsupials Low
Model and predict the distribution of Squirrel Gliders across the south west slopes. Petaurus norfolcensis Squirrel Glider Animal > Marsupials Low
Delineate boundaries of population to identify the extent to which populations are interconnected (to determine propensity to move across cleared land). Petaurus norfolcensis Squirrel Glider Animal > Marsupials Medium
Ensure the largest hollow bearing trees (including dead trees) are given highest priority for retention in PVP assessments and other environmental planning instruments, or other land assessment tools. Petaurus norfolcensis Squirrel Glider Animal > Marsupials Medium
Control feral horses at relevant sites to promote retention and growth of mid-storey shrubs. Petaurus norfolcensis Squirrel Glider Animal > Marsupials Medium
Prepare EIA guidelines which address the retention of hollow bearing trees maintaining diversity of age groups, species diversity. Give priority to largest hollow bearing trees. Petaurus norfolcensis Squirrel Glider Animal > Marsupials Low
Investigate the effectiveness of logging prescriptions. Petaurus norfolcensis Squirrel Glider Animal > Marsupials Low
Prepare a recovery plan for the Squirrel Glider. Petaurus norfolcensis Squirrel Glider Animal > Marsupials Low
Conduct surveys and assessments of less known sites to confirm presence of species and negotiate, develop and implement conservation management agreements for high priority sites. Petaurus norfolcensis Squirrel Glider Animal > Marsupials High
