Habitat

Red-brown loams and sandy loams on flat to undulating terrain receiving 350-500 mm annual rainfall. Extensive on the western peneplain and associated outwash in the east Nyngan-Bourke district, becoming increasingly confined to drainage lines in the western part of its distribution.

Distribution

Extensive on the north-western slopes and plains north from the Lachlan River, likely to extend into southern Qld. Occurrences mapped by Beadle (1948) near Griffith require further examination.

Notes

An extensive and variable group of assemblages, which grade into Inland floodplain woodlands and Northwest floodplain woodlands along a catenary gradient. The shrub component varies with soil texture (sandy soils supporting greater diversity and density of shrubs) and grazing history (unpalatable shrubs may proliferate in under high stocking rates). Grades into semi-arid shrublands with decreasing rainfall. Substantially affected by clearing and degradation associated with pastoral land uses.
