Streamlining the assessment process for clearing native vegetation
On 4 March 2011 an additional chapter in the EOAM was gazetted following approval by the Minister. The chapter lists three vegetation categories that are eligible for streamlined PVP assessment. The streamlined assessment aims to reduce administrative processing times while continuing to improve or maintain environmental outcomes.
Native vegetation that may be considered for streamlined assessment includes:
low condition vegetation including paddock trees
trees not in low condition where there is no groundcover or the groundcover is non-native
vegetation in the Western Division where the Mitchell landscape and vegetation type are less than 10% cleared.
If the native vegetation to be cleared does fall into one of these categories, it must also satisfy environmental filter criteria and the proposal must include an offset of a prescribed nature.
NRC advice
The Minister requested, and received, advice from the Natural Resources Commission (NRC) on the EOAM changes that were exhibited in December 2010. The Minister then responded to this advice.
