Native vegetation

Legislation and policy

In 2005 the NSW Government introduced the Native Vegetation Act 2003 (NV Act) and the Native Vegetation Regulation 2005 (NV Reg) to end broadscale land clearing across the State. In November 2006 the NV Act was updated to simplify the PVP process for CMA officers, landholders and local councils.

The latest amendment to the NV Regulation was made in February 2008.

The native vegetation interim type standard

The DECCW native vegetation interim type standard addresses the scientific processes involved in the gathering, processing and presentation of a range of native vegetation products.

The standard addresses the nature and quality of the scientific processes for native vegetation type activities (remote sensing interpretation, field survey, data manipulation, data management and mapping). The standard:

  1. adopts consistent, comparable, transparent and quantified science practices for native vegetation type information
  2. specifically does not seek to address particular products; a range of products can be produced under this standard
  3. is intended to be scale independent.

In 2011-12, the OEH will review the standard, in consultation with stakeholders.
