NSW Ramsar Plan 2006-09 - Nominations to the Ramsar Convention in NSW: Nomination objectives for the Ramsar List in NSW
The objectives for the Ramsar List in NSW for 2006-09 have been adapted from the global objectives for the Ramsar List that has been established within the strategic framework of the Ramsar Convention. The significance of wetlands for the Aboriginal People, as identified in Resolution VIII.19 of the Ramsar Convention (Appendix 3), has been incorporated into these objectives. The objectives for 2006-09 are listed below, along with the actions proposed to achieve them, and the priority assigned to each action.
In the table below, the term 'stakeholders' includes NGOs such as WWF, the Australian Wetlands Alliance, community groups, Aboriginal Peoples, and the wider community. As well, DECC recognises that Aboriginal Peoples have particular cultural rights (beyond those of other stakeholder groups), to be involved in the management of Country and therefore that their early and ongoing engagement in the nomination process is crucial.
