Departmental priorities

  • Engage all DECCW staff in a sustainability program to improve our water use, energy efficiency, purchasing and waste, with a goal of carbon neutrality
  • Promote and implement best-practice occupational health and safety policies and systems, to protect staff and achieve NSW Government targets
  • Maintain strong corporate governance and reporting frameworks, including practical guidance for DECCW staff and partner agencies such as catchment management authorities
  • Strengthen our staff culture through an organisation-wide staff work and development system for performance management and recognition
  • Develop a corporate information system to support business needs, integrate spatial and non-spatial data and systems, and enable greater sharing of information
  • Implement a DECCW science strategy that focuses efforts on State Plan and corporate priorities, engages the whole organisation and builds key external strategic alliances
  • Build a customer and stakeholder engagement strategy that regularly assesses needs and satisfaction in order to shape DECCW's services, programs and facilities
  • Use new technologies to connect with broader constituencies
  • Develop collaborative and mutually beneficial arrangements across DECCW and with other agencies and organisations, to add value and improve efficiency
  • Establish partnerships with Aboriginal communities to identify and address environmental and governance priorities, and to strengthen community resilience
  • Develop and implement volunteer strategies to engage more people in DECCW's programs for environment protection, conservation, science, education and cultural heritage
  • In providing information and services, strive to improve accessibility for customers, reduce red tape and apply fair and accountable pricing arrangements where there are charges
