Waste reporting forms
Waste reporting requirements in NSW
Waste facilities in NSW are required by law to submit various reports to the Environment Protection Authority (EPA) for the following reasons:
- to pay the waste contribution under section 88 of the Protection of the Environment Operations Act 1997 (POEO Act), known as the 'waste and environment levy' - Operators must report on all waste received and waste sent for recycling.
- to track hazardous waste within NSW and interstate - See waste tracking pages for those reporting requirements and necessary forms.
- to help the EPA collect important data on the types of waste disposed of and materials that are recycled and reused
- to demonstrate compliance with the conditions of an environment protection licence - A facility that holds an environment protection licence as part of the requirements under Schedule 1 of the POEO Act is required to submit an annual return.
Reporting forms for levy-paying waste facilities
For waste facilities that are licensed under the POEO Act and required to pay the waste and environment levy (under section 88 of the POEO Act), the following reports must be submitted.
- Waste contribution monthly report
- Landfill Facility Information Certificate (LFIC) & Volumentric Survey Report
- Yearly Data Report (quarterly reports are no longer required, yearly reports replace quarterly reports)

Reporting forms for waste facilities that do not pay the levy
For waste facilities that are not required to pay the waste and environment levy under section 88 of the POEO Act and are located in the rural areas of NSW or outside of the Sydney Metropolitan Area (SMA), the Extended Regulated Area (ERA) or the Regional Regulated Area (from 1 July 2009) (RRA) and only receive waste from the rural areas of NSW and not from the SMA, ERA or RRA, a yearly data report is required.
Please note: The Protection of the Environment Operations (Waste) Regulation 2005 was amended so that occupiers of licensed landfills that are not required to pay the levy, only need to report to the EPA annually (not quarterly as previously).
