Terms and conditions

Read the terms and conditions of entry to the 2019 Green Globe Awards.

In these terms and conditions of entry, unless otherwise stated:

  • A reference to 'you', or 'your' means the organisation or individual who is completing the online entry form, which may be the entrant or a third party who is nominating the entrant.
  • A reference to 'entrant' means the organisation or individual who is named on the nominee details section of the online entry form.
  • A reference to 'the entry' means the documents constituting the entrant's nomination for a Green Globe Award (and does not include the actual project or initiative which is the subject of the nomination).
  • A reference to 'OEH' means the Office of Environment and Heritage, being an agency related to the Department of Planning and Environment NSW.
  1. To enter the 2019 Green Globe Awards, you must comply with these Terms and Conditions of Entry.
  2. Entries will only be accepted via the online nomination form. To gain access you must set up an account. You will be issued with a username and password for continued access. Please phone 1300 361 967 or email green.globes@environment.nsw.gov.au if you have any difficulty.
  3. Entries (including supporting information) close on Wednesday 10 July 2019 at 5pm AEST. No late submissions will be accepted.
  4. You must keep within the character limits set for each section of the entry form.
  5. Every application must be tailored to fit the particular award category being entered. You can enter multiple categories as long as you tailor and submit a unique application for every category entered.
  6. Nominees submitting the same project are restricted to enter a maximum of 3 award categories.
  7. OEH (in consultation with the judging chairs) reserves the right to change the award category selected by the entrant to a more suitable, alternate category. This move would be considered based on the entry's fit with the alternate Award category in terms of aligning more closely with the category description and criteria.
  8. You may self-nominate for any award. A third party may nominate an individual entrant for the Sustainability Champion Award, the Young Sustainability Champion Award or the Lifetime Achievement Award for individuals. If you are a third party nominating an individual entrant, you must provide written evidence at the time of entry that they accept these terms and conditions of entry. It is highly recommended that the person or organisation who nominated an individual should work closely with the nominee to provide a strong nomination which includes work history and facts and figures and examples of outcomes.
  9. Nominees from the 2018 Green Globe Awards entering the same category for the same project or initiative are eligible to apply, however the entry must demonstrate significant achievements in the last 12 months.
  10. Entries must demonstrate benefits for the people or organisations within the state of New South Wales from 2017 to 2019.
  11. Organisations or individuals based outside New South Wales are eligible to enter the Green Globe Awards, however they should still comply with clause 10.
  12. If the entry is based outside Greater Sydney, the entrant will automatically be considered for the Regional Sustainability Award. You will be prompted to enter the postcode of the actual location of the project or initiative, if different from the address provided in the contact details section. This postcode will be used to identify regional entries.
  13. Entries for the Lifetime Achievement Awards must demonstrate consistent benefits for the people or organisations within the State of New South Wales over a minimum period of 10 years (2009 to 2019).
  14. Entrants with a birth date on or after 1 July 1989 are eligible for the 2019 Young Sustainability Champion Award.
  15. Entrants with a birth date on or before 30 June 1989 are eligible for the 2019 Sustainability Champion Award.
  16. OEH and NSW EPA employees are not eligible to enter the Green Globe Awards.
  17. You must complete the entry form fully addressing the three judging criteria, the project, organisation or individual background, nomination key achievements and provide supporting information.
  18. You are asked to complete questions relating to the nomination process when entering the awards. Your responses to these questions are used to gain feedback on the nomination process and are not used in any way to evaluate entries during the judging process.
  19. Entrants agree to attend or provide representation at the Green Globe Awards ceremony and other relevant publicity activities if they are short-listed as a finalist.
  20. Claims made in your entry must be true and correct. OEH reserves the right to declare your entry ineligible if, in the reasonable opinion of OEH, the information provided in your entry is deficient, false or misleading in any way.
  21. Entrants must declare any perceived conflicts of interest in their entry.
  22. All entrants must be compliant with NSW state and Australian Federal government environmental laws. OEH reserves the right to declare an entry ineligible if an entrant was the subject of an investigation for non-compliance with NSW state or Australian Federal government environmental laws within 30 months prior to 30 October 2019.
  23. OEH reserves the right to cancel the 2019 Green Globes Awards at any time, for any reason and no compensation is payable to entrants for such cancellation.
  24. If subsequent to the grant of a Green Globe Award a winner is found to have breached NSW state or Australian Federal government environmental laws or OEH considers a winner has acted in a manner that is incompatible with a person holding a Green Globe Award, then OEH may revoke the grant of that award to that person and that person must immediately thereafter cease to hold himself or herself out as a winner of that award.
  25. OEH reserves the right to disqualify entries in the event of noncompliance with these Terms and Conditions of Entry.

Public release of information about winners

  1. Information contained within the entries of Green Globe Award winners and finalists will be made public. It is a condition of entry that you give permission to publish your entry including your name and any photograph of you provided as part of your entry. This information will be used by OEH for promotional purposes for finalists and winners.
  2. The Green Globe Awards recognise and promote award finalists and winners. Entrants must be prepared to allow case studies of their entries to be prepared by OEH and must provide input and information for those case studies as reasonably required. Case studies will be made public (including photographs).
  3. By entering the Green Globe Awards, you consent to photographs and videos of you being taken at the Green Globe Awards ceremony and other relevant publicity activities, and to:
    1. the use of such photographs and videos in promotional material published by OEH, including on government websites, social media platforms and printed government material; and
    2. OEH supplying such photographs and videos to third parties for use in online and print media publications.
  4. Except for the information required to be provided under clauses 26-28, entrants may indicate any confidential information provided that forms part of their entry that that is not intended for public release. OEH will not publish confidential information identified in accordance with this clause.
  5. Despite any provision in these Terms and Conditions, OEH will provide any information provided by an entrant (including confidential information) to another party if required to do so under law.

Privacy notice for collection of personal information

  1. OEH are collecting your personal information through Award Force, which is cloud based third party software. To use the Award Force software, you must agree with Award Force's Terms of Service, Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy. OEH has engaged Award Force to use its software to administer the nominations process.
  2. OEH are subject to the Privacy and Personal Information Protection Act 1998 (PPIP Act) in managing your health information. Further information about how OEH manages privacy is detailed in the agencies' Privacy Management Plan.
  3. By entering the Green Globe Awards, you will provide personal information to OEH including your name, address and contact details. Personal information means information or opinion about an individual whose identity is apparent or can be reasonably ascertained from the information or opinion.
  4. If you are providing the personal information other individuals, you confirm that you have their consent to provide their information to OEH and that their information will be managed according to these Terms and Conditions.
  5. OEH are collecting personal information for the purpose of administering the Green Globe Awards. OEH may only use the information in a way which is consistent with this purpose. This could include contacting entrants and nominees to discuss a nomination, and for the purposes of promotion that is consistent with these Terms and Conditions.
  6. OEH may disclose personal information that you have provided to judges of the Green Globe Awards. OEH will not otherwise disclose personal information that you provide to any third party in a way that is contrary to these Terms and Conditions, unless the individual to whom the information relates has provided consent, or it is required under law.
  7. The provision of personal information is voluntary, yet if some personal information is not provided OEH may not be able to accept your nomination.
  8. Personal information will be stored by Action Force in a way that is consistent with its policies as described in clause 30. OEH may also store personal information electronically on its servers. OEH servers are secured by encryption, limited access and password protection.

  1. By submitting an application, the entrant:
    1. warrants that the entry and the project or initiative which is the subject of the entry does not infringe on the copyrights, trademarks, moral rights, rights of privacy or publicity or intellectual property rights of any person or entity, and that no other person or entity has any right, title, claim or interest in the entry or the project or initiative which is the subject of the entry;
    2. grants an irrevocable, perpetual, world-wide non-exclusive licence to OEH to reproduce, distribute, display, adapt and modify application information contained in your entry (except for confidential information identified by the entrant in accordance with clause 29) only for the purposes of promoting, administering or organising the Green Globe Awards or any other OEH, or OEH sponsored or affiliated, award, event or promotional or marketing activity in any media now or hereafter known, including but not limited to web content, advertising, publications and on screen content, and for no other purpose;
    3. acknowledges that physical entries (including supporting information) provided for the purposes of a Green Globe Award nomination become the property of OEH and will not be returned even in the event the Green Globe Awards is cancelled;
    4. grants OEH an unrestricted right to use all statements made referring to the Green Globe Awards and images of the entrant or which resemble the entrant in any reasonable manner, and to permit third parties to do so, only for the purposes of promoting, administering or organising the Green Globe Awards or any other OEH, or OEH sponsored or affiliated, award, event or promotional or marketing activity; and
    5. acknowledges that OEH will not be required to pay any additional consideration or seek any additional approval in connection with the uses described in this clause (except where prohibited by law).
  1. The judges' decisions are final and no further correspondence regarding the judges' decisions will be entered into.
  2. The panel of judges consists of independent experts in a range of fields and they are allocated award categories based on their expertise.
  3. Up to eight judges are responsible for judging each award category. No one individual judge can choose the winner of a category.
  4. Judges will score nominations for each award category against the three judging criteria and supporting information supplied. Each of the three criteria will be given equal weight by the judges.
  5. Judges may elect to present more than one award winner per category to reflect the diversity of outstanding environmental excellence.
  6. Judges work in accordance with the judging process and guidelines document.
  7. The judging panel scores and feedback for each nomination will be made available to the entrant after the judging process is finalised.
  1. By submitting an entry, the entrant agrees to release, discharge and hold harmless OEH and its partners, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising agencies, agents and their employees, officers, directors and representatives from any claim, loss, injury and damage arising directly or indirectly out of their participation in the Green Globe Awards or any related activities and their acceptance and use, misuse or possession of any prize awarded including the breach of any third party intellectual property rights.
  2. OEH is not responsible for:
    1. any technical malfunction of telephone networks or lines, computer online systems, communications networks or computer equipment or software;
    2. traffic congestion on the internet or at any website required to be accessed for submitting an entry, including any error, omission, alteration, tampering, deletion, theft, destruction, transmission interruption, communications failure or otherwise which prevents entrants from successfully submitting an entry; or
    3. any damage to entries or computers resulting from participation in the Green Globe Awards (including damage caused by downloading required entry materials).
