Scarred trees occur across southern and eastern Australia, including much of New South Wales. These tree have long been recognised as a product of traditional Aboriginal activities, but little information is available on their age, origin and interpretation.
This guide has been written to help people identify scarred trees and to provide a basis upon which to distinguish scars of Aboriginal origin from those of other causes.
