Statement of significance:

Outstanding example of Federation architecture, as good as one would find anywhere. Beautifully proportioned and detailed. The verandah is a structure of particular elegance. One of the Shire's best examples of decorative timberwork. Exterior is virtually intact and beautifully maintained. Attractive garden setting. Fence is later but sympathetic and now rare itself.

Builder/Maker: W Atherton in 1909 for himself
Physical description: Impressive Federation house. Weatherboard with red painted iron roofing. Symmetrical design with two front gables. Also has gable on each side. Bull nosed verandah returns down each side. Outstanding entry feature with arched roof over. Decorative timberwork to all gables and entry. Excellent joinery to openings. Main door has side panels and lights, with highlights. French doors either side. Highly decorative chimney. Fence is later but with interest of its own. Wire mesh, c1920's. Attractive garden setting.

Modifications and dates: Exterior appears intact and is immaculately maintained.
Further information: 2009 Site Inspection: Timber spoke from left apex broken; all original window, doors, decorative features; picket fence on bowling club side with turned posts; awning between house at rear and ballet studio added; otherwise unchanged since 1991.

Historical notes: Planning Workshop study dated this building c1890 but it is probably closer to the turn of the century.
