Statement of significance:

Fine row of modest weatherboard and fibro cottages. A representative cross section of Bellingen's older houses. A range of periods and styles, unified by consistency of materials, scale and setbacks. In particular it is the stepping of corrugated iron roofs, down the street, which gives the group special appeal. This may be appreciated on the entry to the town from Bowraville, where clear views of the row are available across the creek.

Physical description: Row of older style cottages stepping down the north side of Northcote Street.
Different periods and styles but unified by scale, setbacks and materials, particularly pitched galvanised iron roofs. No's 1 and 15 are Federation types. 15 has an all gabled roof. 1 has a gambrelled roof and features fine decorative timberwork to its gable. No's 3,5 and 9 are traditional Georgian types. 3 and 5 have bull nosed verandahs. 9 has a skillion type. 13 is a weatherboard and fibro Bungalow. No's 7 and 11 are relatively recent buildings of no particular architectural interest. 9 and 13 have picket fences. 3 and 5 have timber and wire mesh fences.
Modifications and dates: Most of the older houses have suffered some alteration:

* 1 has an aluminium window below its gable and lace brackets have been added to the verandah. Fibro balustrade probably not original.
* Verandah to No 3 enclosed but latticework and blinds are quite sympathetic. Fibro enclosure of return to side is what spoils the building.
* 5 has an out of character skillion addition to the side but the front facade is essentially unaltered.
* 9 has a similar addition but it is well screened. Fibro balustrade.
* Porch/verandah to No 13 is enclosed.
* Verandah to 15 also enclosed. Signs that original boarding has been replaced, with other loss of detail. Modern wire mesh fence.
