Statement of significance:

Outstanding Federation, built as a pair with No 12. Rare locally for its brick construction and rare generally for the bricks being of cement. A fine example of the work of distinguished local builder George Moore. Individual design but true to the period for its complexity of form and excellent timber decoration. The exception locally for the same reasons. Essentially intact. Particularly prominent on its open corner site. Makes an impressive contribution to the streetscape.

Description

Builder/Maker: George Moore
Construction years: 1910-
Physical description: Federation house built of cement bricks. Forms a matching pair with No 12. Symmetrical design on a rectangular plan. Roof consists of two gabled halves. Skillion verandah on three sides. Outstanding entry feature with lattice gablet over. Flat chamfered verandah posts with slatted balustrade. Intricate timber decoration to barge boards, gablet and verandah. Spaced boards to main gables. Double hung windows with three upper and two lower panes. Topflight to main door. Cement rendered basement area. Located on the corner of a laneway with open area opposite. This opens up views of the long side elevation and gives the house particular prominence.
Modifications and dates: Rendering of basement area detracts somewhat but otherwise little altered.
Further information: Site visit 2009: original windows and doors; addition of flyscreens to front door; possibly new verandah posts; possibly original guttering; original roofing; garage added at rear with access to lane, in keeping with house; clear Colourbond added to some of the roofing; well hedged; foundations rendered.
Current use: Residential
Former use: Residential
