Statement of significance:

Essex is of local significance as a well maintained small scale Federation house built around the turn of the century, it still retaines its original detailing and illustrates the development of Burwood as a railway and garden suburb.

Description

Construction years: 1918-1918
Physical description: Essex is well detailed single storey brick Federation house located on the corner of Gordon Street and opposite the railway. It is situated on the crest of the hill and it addresses both streets with small bays. One bay is square and the other is polygonal in form. Decorative timber balustraded valance are attractive features of Essex.
