This well maintained house is of local significance as a good example of Victorian residences that still retains a large section of land.

Description

Construction years: 1885-1885
Physical description: Gayton is a two storey Victorian residence and is constructed of rendered brick. This symmetrical building features twin projecting two storey bays.
A slate roof, cast iron decorated verandah and a small entrance porch are screened from the street by mature plantings.
Modifications and dates: Six car garage with rumpus over, attached to the southern side of the existing dwelling has been constructed in 1996.

History

Historical notes: Gayton was built in 1885 as the home of Richard James, woolbroker and merchant.
