Statement of significance:

St. Joseph's Catholic Church, with its imposing fa├žade is of State significance for its architectural quality and as a landmark along Liverpool Road.

Designer/Maker: Mr. Clancy
Construction years: 1931-1931
Physical description: The Chuch is constructed of brick and has a parapet roof, four large corinthian columns supporting a pediment with sculptured figures depicting a religious scene. Recessed sections display statues to the front elevation.


Historical notes: Early Catholic services were held in the School of Arts building. A combined church and school building was constructed on the corner of Burwood Road and Liverpool Road in 1917. St. Joseph's Catholic Church was designed by Mr. Clancy and was built in 1931.
The design was a replica of St. Madeleine in Paris.
