A Queen Anne style house marking the transition to Federation style.

Designer/Maker: Varney Parkes
Construction years: 1899-1899
Physical description: Large rendered masonry house with Marseilles tile roof. It features imitation stone quoins, sills and brackets below windows, octagonal tower with steeply pitched shingled roof, curved garden path and intact picket fence.


Historical notes: Believed to have been built circa 1899 to the design of Architect Varney Parkes. Parkes occupied the dwelling from 1904 to 1925, initially as a tenent and from 1911 as its owner. Parkes was the Member of the Legislative Assembly for Canterbury 1895-1900, 1907-1913.
