Statement of significance:

This Federation styled residence is historically significant showing growth in Grafton at the turn of the century. It is well presented and the front decorative windows are a distinctive feature with their arched heads. They can be compared with similar moulded windows at 190 -182 Pound Street. This residence contributes to the historic fabric of Alice Street and may have been associated with a professional or business person.

Description

Physical description: A federation styled weatherboard residence with projecting front gable with decorative window joinery. The windows are a feature with rounded arches and can be compared with those at 180 -182 Bacon Street. Hipped iron roof with bull-nose over the front and side verandah. Dentilation under the gable. Verandah supported by plan post. Lattice for privacy. New picket and brick front fence. Joinery appears original. Interior not viewed but Real Estate article claims "it has retained polished floor boards, pressed metal ceilings and original cedar door" .

History

Historical notes: The early history of this property is unknown but Drainage Plans dated 1934 show the owner as J. Kelly. By 1978 it was in the hands of E & P. Watkins. It has had five owners between 1981 and 2000.
