Statement of significance:

This quality Federation style residence shows development in this section of Dobie Street c1900. It has retained original elements and is representative of its type. It can be compared with similar dwellings in Pound Street and as the Daily Examiner states "it is a classic weatherboard with high ceilings and fancy windows" .

Physical description: A typical quality Federation weatherboard clad residence, located on a large block of land. A projecting gable to the front showcases a fine window with three long narrow windows surrounded by moulded edging and a centre small half circle window. Decorative timber work under the gable. Gabled corrugated iron roof with bullnose over a front verandah. Filigree iron work under the verandah board. Raised with steps to the front door flanked by rendered piers. Joinery appears original. Attractive garden with hedge to the street.

Historical notes: The early history of this dwelling has not been research but Drainage diagrams dated 4/4/1940 show the property owned by the Estate J. Thompson. In 1940 the street address for the property was 147 Dobie Street. According to an article in the Daily Examiner (nd) this property has been in the hands of the Paine family since 1954 and it is now owned by Earle Paine. Since 1988 Earle Paine has been planting a small rainforest in the large backyard, which boasts 37 different varieties of palms.
