Statement of significance:

Grand Federation period house designed by architect George Oakshott as his own home. Of interest for complex roof and extensive verandahs. Though much altered the basic form of the building is still recognisable and many of the alterations are reversible. Much of the interior is original. Local historical interest for its association with Oakshott.

Physical description: Large Federation house now part of a nursing home. Complex plan. Complex hipped terracotta tile roof. Roughcast chimneys with terracotta pots. Exposed rafter eaves. Ventilated gablets. Roof broken-back over verandah on several sides of building. Sandstone arched entry. Double-hung windows. Attic level with dormers. Many original interior features.

History

Historical notes: Built in 1906-7 by George Oakshott architect as his own home. As far as is known this was the only private house he designed. He was for many years Commonwealth Works Director for NSW. In 1923 the house and property were sold to Edward Loxton.
