Description

Designer/Maker: W.L Vernon
Physical description: It is a large two storey residence on rusticated sandstone foundations, with lower floor open kiln flemish bond brick, and roughcast treatment to the upper floor. The roof is covered with terracotta plain tiles with terracotta ridging, gable finials and chimney pots. The street facade is busy with projecting gables, balcony and oriel windows in a strongly asymmetrical design. The timber balustrade treatment of vertical shaped and pierced slats is unusual. The rear verandah is clad in timber shingles. Art Nouveau detail can be seen in verandah brackets and some interior joinery and staircase. Most of the joinery is painted. There is also some simplified Art Nouveau interior plaster work (National Trust).
Modifications and dates: Altered or extended sympathetically

It is in a prominent position on the Pacific Highway close to Ku-ring-gai Avenue classified Urban Conservation Area. It contains much of its original details and finishes (National Trust). Historical period: Pre- 1900.
