Statement of significance:

SIGNIFICANCE - 1993: This house possibly has historical significance relating to former settlement and an earlier house on its site.
The existing house is well built and well maintained. It retains most of its original materials and detailing.
Its most obvious significance is in the substantial contribution it makes to an interesting streetscape group containing three or four houses, all near one street corner, each of slightly different periods, and with progressive stylistic idioms.

Description

Physical description: PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS - 1993:
Location: south-west corner of Council & Albert Streets
Architectural Style: Vernacular version of a (very late) Federation Bungalow
Materials: Frame - brick
Roof - terra cotta tiles, hipped & gabled with terra cotta ramshorns on the ridges
Walls/Cladding - solid face brick
Windows - wood frames, DH in pairs, 6-pane coloured top sashes
Floors - timber
Interior - painted hard plaster
Unlike its neighbours on the other side of Albert and Council streets, this cottage was not designed to address the corner.
The front north- facing projecting gable is flanked by symmetrical verandahs.
The west verandah has been enclosed in circa the 1940s.
Original detailing includes green & red panes in top sashes of main windows, stuccoed & strapped gable ends.
Much original interior detailing has been maintained.
Modifications and dates: Back verandah enclosed. This house is said to have been built onto a small earlier cottage.
Current use: 1993: domestic residence
