Statement of significance:

SIGNIFICANCE - 1993: One of the best examples of a Federation Queen Anne style cottage in Lake Macquarie.
It has attractive detailing, characteristic of its period, and is in remarkably intact and original condition.
It has been occupied for the last 50 years by a miner who came from Wales but worked for many years in the local Seaham No.1 and/or No.2 coal mine(s).
He is now retired, but still occupies this house and gives it a close association with the miners of the past and with the town's mining origins.
Like the older miner's cottage in Main Road, Cardiff, this cottage could be used as a pattern for the restoration of cottages of the same period & style in Lake Macquarie.
LEVEL of SIGNIFICANCE - 1993: Regional significance - moderate,
in a scheduled Conservation Area
Local significance - very high
Group Significance - very high (as a contributing item
in the conservation area)
Date significance updated: 28 May 08
