Statement of significance:

Evidence of the early residential development of Balmoral and its use by wealthy residents. This house is the oldest in Stanley Avenue which was named after its owner.

Construction years: 1880-
Physical description: Federation Italianate. A splendid two-storey sandstone residence with three storey tower, with a hipped and gabled slate roof, built in an expansive garden setting with mature plantings, and having commanding views eastwards towards the Heads. In typical Italianate form the house is symmetrical and, as is often the case in larger versions of this style, is marked by a prominent tower with grouped windows in the top storey and a pyramidal roof. There is a classical porch with an open pediment.
Modifications and dates: Sympathetic Minor Alteration.

History

Historical notes: This house was built in the 1880s, for Mr Stanley, after whom Stanley Avenue is named.
