Statement of significance:

National Trust - La Chalet is well detailed regional example of the Federation Period. It is largely intact and has both physical and social value and significance in the largely unaltered central streetscape of Lambton. Internal fabric of note.

Description

Physical description: Single storey house with verandah on three sides.House shows elements of Queen Anne or Federation style. Verandah features heavily carved woodwork.The house is set on a rise to give greater prominence to the street. National Trust - this is a prominent brick villa. The garden has original timber and woven wire fence and the gate has decorative wrought iron cresting. It is a conservation "regional" translation of the Federation sytle with remnants of earlier styling. It is surrounded on three sides by a curved iron verandah with masonry post supports, turned timber balustrade and frieze, fretwork panels and cast iron brackets. Each main facade displays a decorative central gable ormnamented with half timbering and pressed metal panels imitating fish scales and rough cast work. The front door has sidelights with coloured glass in upper sashes.
Modifications and dates: The service areas at the rear have been altered, and a wing extension was built in 1983.
