Statement of significance:

As a group the Boltons strongly reinforce the 19th Century character of The Hill above the city. The Boltons are significant at the local level for their asociation with the AA Company, architect Frederick Menkens, and as an example of a housing development by a woman at the turn of the 20th century.

Physical description: A group of four identical free-standing terrace type houses built in 1904 for Mrs Bode. Architect - Menkens . Builder - G W Brewer.
Current use: Residence


Historical notes: Designed by architect Frederick Menkens in the Federation Queen Anne style. The four houses were developed by a woman, the daughter of Charles Bolton, whose name was Sidney Bode (nee Bolton). Charles had bought the land from the AA Company in 1858. The houses were built in 1904.
