Statement of significance:

A characteristic example of the Federation Free Style flats of the 1920s, utilising an eclectic combination of building elements and design motifs cleverly combined in a mixture of bold face brickwork and stucco highlights. It is an interesting element in the surrounding group of contemporary flats buildings. The interiors of the aprtments are also of significance. See also Group Card NSHS0126.

Description

Physical description: o This building is designed in the Federation Free Style.

A three level brick apartment block on a stone basement. It has a crenellated parapet with checker-board brick patterning to the panels between piers, moulded stucco string courses and stucco sills, lintels and side panels to timber framed casement windows. The entrance is framed by squared tapering columns in Egyptian style, and has period wood panelling, marble and terracotta tile linings. Interior with intact detailing including patterned ceilings, original floorboards and joinery. Original room configuration still intact. Some apartments retain patterned ceilings and joinery.
