History

Historical notes: The history of this item should be read in conjunction with Nos. 22-24 A'Beckett Street. Land was bought in March, 1909, for œ50 by John Jones, Granville, freeholder. He mortgaged the land twice in 1910 to build what apparently became No. 20 and it was tenanted by 1911. He sold it in November 1911, for œ400 to James Tregoning, tanner of Granville whose tannery was nearby. Tregoning seems to have built Nos. 22-24 and let them to tenants. All these houses were then sold in May 1913 to Thomas Morrissey of South Grafton for œ500. Morrissey split Nos. 22-24 off and sold them for œ525 in November 1916. National Trust (Parramatta Branch): The land was bought in March 1909 for 50 pounds by John Jones of Granville, who then built this house, he sold it in 1911 for 400 pounds to James Tregoning, a tanner whose tannery was nearby. This cottage was sold to Thomas Morissey of Grafton in 1913 for 500 pounds. | | SD 1924: Gill, William | SD 1920: Hogan, Michael | SD 1915: Hogan, Michael
