Statement of significance:

The group of houses at 25, 27, 29, 31, 33, 35, 37, 39, 41, 43, 45, 47, 49 and 51 Albion Street, Harris Park, is of significance for Parramatta LGA for historical and aesthetic reasons and as a representative set of Victorian and Federation cottages readily identifiable as part of the historic building stock in the area. The group makes an important contribution to the streetscape and the Harris Park West conservation area in spite of the unsympathetic developments in the vicinity.

Description

Construction years: 1910-
Physical description: Group of cottages. A group whose scale, form and materials contributes to the Harris Park Conservation Area. National Trust (Parramatta Branch): Fabric: Flemish bond, tuck pointed brick walls, with sandstone plinth and terracotta tiled roof. Roof Construction: Gablet roof with large gables extending across rear elevation. Chimneys: Two spatterdash brick chimneys with corbels and two octagonal terracotta pots on each chimney. Verandah: Terracotta tiled skillion roof extending from main roof over verandah across front only. Verandah Floor: Quarry tiles. Verandah Supports: Timber posts set on brick piers with rendered capping. Brick balustrade with rendered coping. Verandah Decoration: Solid brick dividing wall and end walls. End walls have recessed arches. Verandah Decoration: Solid brick dividing wall and end walls. End walls have recessed arches. Window Sill: Rendered corniced sills. Fence: Acorn topped timber picket fence and posts with matching gate. Wrought iron dividing fence. Garden: Neat. Archit Style: Federation attached single-storey cottages. Front Door: Transom light over dentils in lintel, below Victorian four panel door with simple moulds. National Trust (Parramatta Branch): Fabric: Weatherboard walls with corrugated iron roof. Roof Construction: Hip. Verandah: Skillion ribbed aluminium roof over verandah across front only. Verandah Floor: Concrete. Verandah Supports: Pipe posts. Verandah Decoration: Window Sill: Timber. Fence: Fence has rendered brick foundations and posts connected by two galvanised iron pipes and wrought iron gate. Garden: Mostly concreted. Archit Style: Late Victorian single-storey cottage. Front Door: Transom light above a modern timber door with three decorated panels. National Trust (Parramatta Branch): Fabric: Weatherboard walls with cement tiled roof. Roof Construction: Hip. Verandah: Skillion aluminium roof over verandah across front only. Verandah Floor: Quarry tiled. Verandah Supports: Timber posts. Verandah Decoration: Lattice privacy screen in front of front door, earlier diagonal lattice verandah screen each end. Garden: Palms across front paved yard. Archit Style: Victorian vernacular single-storey cottage. Front Door: Transom light above five panelled door with three glazed panels above lock rail and timber bolection mould panels below. National Trust (Parramatta Branch): Fabric: Weatherboard walls with cement tiled roof. Roof Construction: Gambrel hip with projecting flying gable front with square bay under gable. Verandah Decoration: Window Sill: Timber sill with timber scallop decoration. Fence: Flat top timber picket fence with wrought iron gate. Garden: Well kept.
