Statement of significance:

House at 3 Earl Street is of significance for the local area for historical and representativeness reasons. Built c.1915, it is readily identifiable as part of historic building stock and continues to contribute to the streetscape.

Description

Construction years: 1915-
Physical description: Single storey Federation Arts and Crafts cottage, double fronted, has weatherboard walls and corrugated iron roof. Gambrel roof is with projecting gable decorated by timber ladder screen and finial. One brick chimney is with steps and two squat terracotta pots. Verandah has corrugated iron skillion roof extending from main roof across front and return to west side. Verandah is supported by paired timber posts set on tapered brick piers and spatter dash balustrade with rendered coping. Solid timber curved valance between posts is decorating verandah. Same solid timber curved valance is above side windows. Front door has transom lights and sidelights. On the side of the front door is an oval plate with words "Cottage circa 1917". Window on the projecting gable has skillion fibro awning supported by ladder brackets. Front fence is timber picket fence and gate.

History

Historical notes: Land subdivided as the Park Hill Estate in the early 1880s. This house was shown on the Water Board plan of January 1937. National Trust (Parramatta Branch): Shown on Water Board map of 1937.
