Statement of significance:

The house at 44 Grose Street is of significance for the local area for historical reasons and as a representative example of residential architecture of the Federation period in this area. Built c. 1914, the house is readilly identifiable as part of historic building stock and strongly contributes to the streetscape. Site possesses potential to contribute to an understanding of early urban development in Parramatta.

Construction years: 1914-
Physical description: Single storey house is of tuck pointed red brick cavity walls with contrasting trim in dark brickwork and painted brick side walls and has corrugated iron roof. Hip roof has projecting gable. Timber ladder gable screen is very damaged. Aluminium awning is over arch window in gable. There are two tall spatterdash chimneys with corbelled brick tops and squat terracotta pots. Verandah has bullnose hip corrugated iron roof over across front to projecting gable. Paired timber half posts set on brick posts are supporting verandah roof. Curved balustrade is with bullnose contrasting brick coping. Verandah is decorated with square timber spindles set diagonally in ladder valance. Windows have wide painted rendered brick sills and soldier brick arches. Front door has transom light above six-panelled timber door with two small and a large coloured glazed panel above lock rail and two timber bolection mould panels below. Front fence is Colonial timber picket fence on rendered brick plinth with metal gate.
