Statement of significance:

Group of houses at 42-48 Marion Street is of significance for the local area for historical and representativeness reasons. Built c.1900, they are readily identifiable as part of historic building stock and strongly contribute to the Harris Park West conservation area due to similarities in age, design and materials.

Construction years: 1900-
Physical description: Four Victorian single storey cottages of Flemish brick walls and hipped corrugated iron roofs. No.46 has tall brick chimney with corbels and dentils below. Verandahs at Nos. 42 and 46 have bullnose corrugated iron roof while at No. 48 verandah has flat metal roof above. Verandah floor at No. 46 and 48 have tessellated tiles with slate edging. At No.46, verandah is supported by turned timber columns while the other three houses have pipe posts. All houses have brick privacy walls at each end with blind arch. Exterior doors at No. 46 has transom light above French doors with bolection mould panels below lock rails and glazed panels above with timber louvre shutters. Front door at Nos. 42 and 48 have transom light over Victorian four panel timber door with simple moulds. No. 46 has transom light over Federation style five panel door. No. 44 has fully glazed wall. Front fence at houses Nos. 42 and 44 are picket fences while Nos. 46 and 48 have low brick fence.
