Statement of significance:

Loch Erin, the house at 62 Railway Parade, is of significance for Parramatta for historical and aesthetic reasons, and as a representative example of quality Federation period Arts and Crafts style houses in the area. The house, built c. 1912, is readily identifiable as part of the historic building stock, it is very prominent in the streetscape and strongly contributes to its character.

Construction years: 1912-
Physical description: Single storey Federation corner bungalow with slate roof with terra-cotta ridge capping. It features red tuck-pointed face brick walls in stretcher bond with dark brick string lines and quoins, restrained timber detailing around verandah posts and valence boards, and casement windows with coloured panes. Roof construction is gablet hip with projecting gables to front and side. Two tall rendered brick chimneys with stepped corbels survive. Return verandah with terracotta tiled roof is extending from main roof. Verandah decoraiton consists of decorative timber posts set on brick piers, balustrade with rendered coping, and incised decorative timber valance. Exterior doors have transom lights over Federation five panelled doors with two small glazed panes above a large square glazed pane, with two timber bolection mould panels below lock rail (all glazing was removed and replaced by timber infill). Front door is set in segmented arch, a six panelled door with centre panel glazed (other original glass details have been removed and fibro was installed). Dark bricks were used to end segmented arches, also on quoins around windows and doors. Fence was simple timber post and rail.

Historical notes: Land bought September 1911 by George Winter, builder of Granville. He mortgaged this land in January 1912 to build this house, which he named 'Loch Erin'.
