Physical description: Single storey red brick Federation bungalow with walls in contrasting bands of colour and slate roof with terra-cotta ridge capping. An enclosed "widow's walk" is a major feature of this building. The facades are in dark brick, with tuck pointed stretcher bond, and red brick string lines above and below window level. Roof construction is hip with projecting gables to street front and side elevations with square bays below. Gables have timber fretwork barge boards with spattedash in the gables. Widow's walk has flat roof and louvred windows. Two tall brick and spatterdash chimneys with terracotta corniced tops. Slate verandah roof extends from main roof over return verandah on paired timber posts set on brick piers and brick balustrade. Historical notes: Land purchased in July 1913 by Mary Ann Glasson, wife of Charles Glasson, builder of Granville. The land was mortgaged in August 1914, to erect this dwelling. It is likely that Charles Glasson was the builder. When complete it was highly regarded in the area and was one of the dwellings chosen to represent the houses of Granville in the 1915 Progressive Granville volume. Charles Glasson was one of the major builders in Granville in the early 20th century. National Trust (Parramatta Branch): Land subdivided as nobb's re-subdivision of Want's Estate. House shown on street alignment survey of 1891. House shown on Water Board plan of 1930. | | |
