Statement of significance:

The cottage at 11 Prince Street, Granville is of significance for the local area for historical and aesthetic reasons and as a representative example of a modest Federation-period timber cottage in the area. The house, built c. 1911-1912, is readily identifiable as part of the historic building stock of the area and continue to contribute to its character, additonally as part of the group at Nos. 5, 7, 9 and 11 Prince Stret. This group corresponds to Nos. 1-9 Albert Street, which further enhances its significance. The two groups are contributory to townscape and diversity of housing stock and style in the local area.

Description

Construction years: 1911-
Physical description: Narrow fronted weatherboard cottage with galvanised iron roof. Its features include casement windows with coloured glass panes, simple verandah with new metal columns and replacement weatherboard cladding. Property has no fence, and an intrusive carport was created in front of the house.

History

Historical notes: Built 1911-2, for Margaret Mary Fitzgerald, spinster, who built the cottages, Numbers 5 to 11 Prince Street, to let. They were sold after her death in 1922. They are probably prefabricated cottages.
