Statement of significance:

Outstanding example of 19th Century ecclesiastical architecture. A prominent local landmark with considerable historic interest. Stonework and detailing of special note. Set in magnificent landscaped grounds.

Description

Construction years: 1895-
Physical description: Monumental Gothic style brick and sandstone building with attic storey and tower. Northern façade is in sandstone. Walls are rusticated with presed smooth quoins, reveals, arches, string courses and pyramidal spire to tower. The cloisters (about 1921)are face brick with terra cotta tiled roof and large timber dormer windows. The building occupies a commanding position on a prominent knoll. Mature figs and palms enhance its setting.

History

Historical notes: Designed by Sheerin and Hennessy, architects, and built of Pyrmont sandstone by Dugald McIntyre in 1895. Enjoys an elevated 3 hectare (7 ½ acre) site. A new building at the rear is used as a national seminary for late vocations.
