Main frontage appears to be away from the street, to the east. Substantial roof alteration on street elevation. Condition of remainder not known.

Historical notes: Built by George Raffan, well-known building contractor, about 1887. He occupied the house until 1915. The cartilage originally extended to the bottom of Glebe Gully and was a botanical wonderland. Dr A.M. Loewenthal owned and occupied Rathven in the early 1920’s and sold it to Sydney Grammar School in 1926. It was used as a boarding house for students. Recently it reverted to a private residence (now called Ashleigh Gardens). Rathven was first listed in Sand’s Directory in 1888.
