History

Historical notes: The subject property is part of 1200 acres granted by Governor Brisbane to merchant James Chandler in 1831. The land was auctioned as part of the Ocean View Estate in 1883. The exact date of construction and early occupants are unclear, although the house, one of a pair with No. 51, was likely built between 1910 and 1920. In 1920 the occupant was Harry Newhouse; by 1930 Andrew Barras was in residence.
