Statement of significance:

The Redmyre Estate was laid out in 1867 and the first house was built in 1868. Lots 24 and 25 were sold to C.J. Muddle in 1867. These lots are bounded by the present day Hunter, Thomas, Fairholm and Homebush Roads. The Sands Directory shows that C. J. Muddle lived in ‘Fairholm’ by 1885. It is believed to have been one of the first 6 houses of the Redmyre Estate. Fairholm, originally fronting Fairholm Street now faces Cotswold Road and still retains its Victorian window sills, chimneys and symmetry. A later terra cotta roof and Californian bungalow verandahs have been added. The original verandah roofing was bullnose corrugated iron. The houses surrounding are predominantly Californian bungalows, indicating a subdivision in the 1920’s. Fairholm is of State significance as one of the first six dwellings on the Redmyre Estate that formed the basis for the Strathfield Municipality in 1885.
