Fine example of an early twentieth century post office. Individual Federation design, essentially intact. Good example of Queen Anne influence. Local significance.

Construction years: 1890-1915
Physical description: Early twentieth century public building. Simply styled, with Arts and Crafts and Queen Anne influences. Complex, terra cotta tiled roof. Different elevations to each street frontage. Entry porch in recess to corner. Symmetrical, double gable beside on Bondi Road. Extended gable overhang to Ocean Street. All gables decorated in pebbledash with louvred vents to apexes. Stone bands above and below windows. Dark brick arches to windows on Ocean Street. Stone hood to door on Bondi Road. Flat roofed porch supported by timber posts above brick piers. Large two storey residence at rear (on Ocean Street).

Historical notes: First post office for this area was an unofficial office in Ocean Street, opened in 1883. A new building was erected in 1898 but was not really adequate. This site was acquired c. 1907 and a new residential post office erected. Appears little altered since (see 1946 photo in Waverley Local History Collection, 4553).
