Statement of significance:

Building of some architectural interest but primarily of local historical and community interest. Part of an important grouping including church, schools and Scarba House. Local significance.

Construction years: 1915-1945
Physical description: 1920's style institutional building. Two storeys. Projection on one side with gabled parapet. Verandah/balcony beside. Extensively rendered in pebbledash. Verandah features pointed arches. Balcony now glassed in. Large gambrel to main roof. Roof continues down over verandah/balcony. Difficult to say how original but no obvious alterations apparent. Detailing limited but good.

Historical notes: The Sisters of St Joseph moved to the corner of Bondi Road and Wellington Street in 1896. They conducted the school at St Anne's in O'Brien Street. This building was built for them in 1917. The old building became a temporary church until the present church was built in 1929-30. (Source: Dowd, pp. 193, 210).
