Description

Construction years: 1855-1859
Physical description: Substantial stone building featuring a hip roof and double hung six pane windows. Original arched openings to either end are discernible.

Archaeological potential:
Fair
Modifications and dates: Roof, infill to large openings.
Further information: '... Two storied stone building which it is understood was an early Store. Very suitable for restoration and would be an asset to the tourist trade if it could be restored and put to some use.' Source: Buckland, National Trust Report, 1965

History

Historical notes: Built 1859 as two shops - a saddler and Dispatch (newspaper) office called the Albert Buildings. McKellar Street was the former main street of Braidwood. Converted to a steam driven flour mill in the 1860s, proprietors Hendricks and Jacobs(?). Originally two storeys and an attic and gable ended roof. Used this century as a wattle bark store.

Recommended management:

Commercial uses, however location is away from main street.
