Statement of significance:

Medium Significance.
Interesting conglomerate of sandstone service buildings still functioning after various adaptations. Townscape contribution of rooflines, skylights, walling and chimney stack, particularly to Punt Road and Punt Road gates approach. Refer to main listing for precinct.

Designer/Maker: Walter Liberty Vernon
Physical description: Group of service buildings constructed at various times in latter half of nineteenth century and early twentieth century. Sturdily built of stone with open timber roofs. Substantial skylights raised on ridges of boiler house and laundry boiler house stack and training school lantern. All stone buildings are included, viz: dry cleaning unit, formerly kitchen; water tank with butcher's shop under; boiler house and stack; laundry; laundry adjuncts buildings, sorting, ironing, etc; training school and library, formerly store.
Workshop: Dressed sandstone and corrugated steel 1-1/2 storeys offices form with clerestoreys.

Current use: Workshop and Plumber's Store
Former use: Laundry and Kitchen (addition)


Historical notes: Building designed in 1900 as an infill to the then kitchen (Item 31), gate house (Item 28) and laundry (Item 32). Originally comprised plumbers shop, boilers and lavatories. In 1887 the chimney stack was erected for the new boilers installed for the kitchen and laundry.
Some openings in northern courtyard blocked, LT. Skillion structure on east side of courtyard against building 31 partially demolished and infilled, LT. Section at northern end on west side of courtyard converted to amenities c.1985. Courtyard concreted c.1985.
