Designer/Maker: James Barnmet (1876) & Walter Liberty Vernon (1911)
Physical description: Coursed rubble stone and roughcast walls, slate roof, single storey, farmyard outbuilding form.
Date condition updated:25 Jan 95
Modifications and dates: 1911
Current use: Stores
Former use: Stores

Historical notes: The building seen today is the result of Vernon's alterations in 1911 which engulfed the blacksmiths, goat shed and stables erected in 1876, which in turn demolished earlier deadhouse, stables and shed. Vernon's work created a billiards and reading room, a staff dining room and kitchen (in the former stables) and extended the wing west to make new stores. Extensive landscaping was also made in the south courtyard areas. The loading docks were constructed in 1958. The staff dining room was remodelled in 1963.
Possibly earlier stone buildings comprehensively altered c.1910, including new roof forms. Circa 1950 two loading bays added to west. Evidence of sawtooth roof building now removed on north wall. Incorporated mid-Victorian perimeter wall on west side. Possible open colonnade along east side enclosed c.1970.
