Statement of significance:

It is important as a rare surviving early residential building that has undergone additions and alterations over its lifetime. It is important having been associated with a past NSW Premier Sir Joseph Carruthers (residence). It portrays earlier patterns of subdivision in the area

Construction years: 1880-1890
Physical description: Victorian Gothic, Victorian Classical. Sandstone and rendered brickwork.
Modifications and dates: Castellated additions - victorian classic. Removal of outbuildings. Subdivision of original block.
Further information: A variety of palms and figs relating to the construction period of the original house. Original fence continues through to property No 21a.


Historical notes: Part of "Ellesmere" Estate. Built for Joseph Hector Carruthers c1880. Famous politician, premier of NSW.
