Little Llangothlin Nature Reserve, Northern Tablelands

Home to Little Llangothlin Lagoon, the nature reserve was protected 40 years ago, and celebrations are set for World Wetlands Day, Saturday 2 February.

Little Llangothlin Nature Reserve is listed on the Ramsar Convention of Wetlands of International Importance and is one of the last remaining high altitude freshwater lagoons along the New England Tablelands.

National Park and Wildlife Service Area Manager Michael Lieberman said he is excited to welcome families to the reserve to celebrate this momentous occasion and discover the mysteries of the lagoon.

"Little Llangothlin Reserve is a hidden gem."

"It's a refuge for over 100 species of birds and an abundance of animals."

"We have activities for young and old and we look forward to sharing our knowledge of the area while hopefully seeing some magnificent creatures through your binoculars."

"The celebration will be a great opportunity to gain a better understanding from National Park and Wildlife Service rangers, of how the lagoon provides habitats for vulnerable and rare species."

"Come walk through this special place and enjoy a cuppa and some cake on us!"

Birthday with the Birds is on from 9.30am until 12.30pm on Saturday 2 February 2019.
